As Trading Law Advisor, you'll ensure our business remains compliant with regulatory requirements across the UK and EU. Your focus on consumer rights will be instrumental in maintaining our commitment to ethical practices.

Key responsibilities

  • Stay abreast of relevant laws, regulations and industry standards, applicable to the retail environment.
  • Horizon scanning for future changes in regulations and assess any emerging risk to Screwfix, collaborating with Line Manager and team in progressing any key activity or change to meet ongoing compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide commercially sound risk based regulatory compliance support and advice to internal stakeholders, relating to (including but not limited to): the Green Claims Directive; Consumer Protection Laws and Regulations; Marketing and Advertising; Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer compliance; Digital Services Act; PECR; GDPR and Cookies compliance.
  • Develop, implement and maintain compliance policies and procedures; to align with applicable regulations and laws, in conjunction with Kingfisher.
  • Proactively conduct appropriate risk assessments, collaborating with internal departments; to identify potential compliance issues and mitigate such related risk.
  • Monitor, investigate and report as required on compliance status.
  • Deliver training as necessary to the internal stakeholders, proportionate to the impact, risk and audience.
  • Foster a culture of compliance awareness and ethical behaviour with stakeholders.
  • Assist the Legal Commercial Team with ad hoc related matters as required
  • Escalate key concerns/challenges where required to Legal Specialist, updating on general activity/ongoing project status - gaining additional advise and support where required

Required skills & experience

  • Proven experience of providing regulatory and/or compliance advice and training, in particular relating to consumer and data protection, and advertising.
  • Thorough, analytical, systematic and pragmatic in thought and communication.
  • Confident in presenting challenges, project updates and resolution options to stakeholders, at all levels.
  • Adept at achieving the balance between legal risk and business priorities.
  • Strong influencing skills, including the ability to present concepts and collaborate effectively with any business stakeholder.
  • Complete tasks accurately, on time and to a high standard.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities alongside stakeholders’ expectations.
