Enhanced Family Leave

We are really pleased to be able to offer Enhanced Family Leave for our UK based colleagues.  Our policies and resources are inclusive for all parents and include enhanced pay terms, going above and beyond statutory requirements. 

We also offer paid leave for fertility treatment appointments and enhanced parental bereavement leave, as well as specialist support through our partnership with the Retail Trust.

One of the many stresses of becoming a first-time mother was inevitably money. Statutory maternity pay is an almost unliveable amount. Not only are you worried about keeping a small human being alive, but the fear of unexpected bills nibbles away at the back of your consciousness.

I smiled as a read the new, inclusive policy titles. Maternity leave will become Maternity and Pregnant Parent Leave and Paternity Leave will become Paternity/ Non-Pregnant Parent/ Co-Adopter Leave. They're also changing Adoption Leave to include Surrogacy Leave.

I shed a tear as I read the changes and saw an enhancement to pay, too. It was an instant weight off my shoulder. And more than that, it was entirely refreshing to see the company I work for making the changes they said they would, on a quicker timeline than I expected.

I had resigned myself to this fate and saved as much as I could from as soon as I found out I was expecting. Imagine my joy and surprise, when bleary eyed and smelling of baby sick, I opened a letter from Screwfix highlighting their upcoming Family Leave policy changes.

After forcing myself to put work out of my mind during maternity leave, it was wonderful to remember why I work where I do.

We will shortly be launching our new Family Leave policies for our colleagues in the Republic of Ireland and Isle of man. In the meantime, colleagues will continue to benefit from family leave and pay in line with local legislation.
